Why are you here? What do you see at the moment? What do you know about this place?
Judith Neunhäuserer presents her new book Old Ice and Us [Wir, hier im alten Eis]. It was designed by Julie Héneault and was published by Ness Books (Paris) at the end of last year.
In 2022, the artist sailed along the west coast of Spitsbergen with the program “The Arctic Circle”. The diary, which she began to keep during the preparation period and continued in the Arctic Ocean, merges weather situations, bodily sensations and primary emotions, gallery and archive visits, IPCC reports and therapy sessions. On board the ship were twenty-five other artists and eleven crew members. Every day Judith conducted an interview based on a fixed list of questions.
The book also explicitly joins the history of the North Pole voyages through the visual level and questions the possibilities and responsibility of art production in the climate crisis.
Sophia Mainka, who edited the text, and the translator Claire Henderson will be present. A reading will take place at 5.30 pm. Afterwards, the video “All heat is the same” from the Five Encounters series will be set to music live by Adrian Sölch, and the event will end with a DJ set.
The publication can be purchased for 28 euros on site or via Antenne Books .
